City of Tallmadge Appoints New Fire Chief
TALLMADGE, OHIO – Mayor David G. Kline today announced the selection of John D. Underwood as the next Fire Chief of the Tallmadge Fire Department. He will begin his new role at the end of November.
“Following a statewide search and thorough vetting of many highly qualified candidates, Chief Underwood was selected to fill the role. As a seasoned fire service professional, he brings extensive local fire service experience and leadership skills to his new role with the City of Tallmadge,” stated Mayor Kline. “I am confident that his proven track record as a respected leader in our city will carry over to his new role where he will continue to be a strong asset to our community.”
Underwood has served the Tallmadge Fire Department for 24 years; two years as a part-time Firefighter/Paramedic, nine years as a full-time Firefighter/Paramedic, and 13 years as a Battalion Chief responsible for department Quality Assurance efforts and all fire operations for C shift. He also serves as the Assistant Chief of the Mogadore Fire Department where he has served for 28 years.
Underwood is an Ohio Certified Firefighter II, Paramedic, EMS Continuing Education Instructor, Fire Safety Inspector, and earned an Associate Degree in Fire Science from Waldorf University.
“I’m extremely humbled to be selected as the next Fire Chief in Tallmadge,” said Chief Underwood upon being notified of his selection. “Tallmadge is an outstanding community with an outstanding fire department.” He went on to say, “I hope to build upon that excellence and work hard to keep the Tallmadge Fire Department one of the best in the region.”
