2019 Memorial Day Weekend Filled with Activities to Honor our Fallen Heroes

The American Legion Kneil-Lawrentz Post 255 of Tallmadge in cooperation with the City of Tallmadge and the Tallmadge Historical Society invite all to join in numerous patriotic activities Memorial Day Weekend, Saturday, May 25 to Monday, May 27, 2019.

 

Saturday, May 25

6-8:30 pm: Patriotic Concert and Pie & Ice Cream Social at Tallmadge High School

In recognition of Memorial Day, a concert to commemorate the city’s commitment to those who have served and died for this country will be offered in the auditorium at Tallmadge High School. The patriotic concert will feature The Ladies for Liberty, a musical trio formed from a desire to revive the great music of the 1940s and WWII Era Andrews Sisters Style. The concert will be followed by a pie and ice cream social.


Sunday, May 26

12-4 pm: 82nd & 29th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Civil War Encampment, Clara Barton, and The Sons of the Union from the Civil War #67 on Tallmadge Circle

The Civil War Encampment with the 82nd & 29th Ohio Volunteer Infantry will take place from 12-4 pm. This living history experience will include an intimate look into the life of the common soldier during the Civil War. From 1-3 pm visit The Sons of the Union from the Civil War #67 in the Old Town Hall and at 1:30 pm hear from Carol Starre-Kmiecik as Clara Barton, a pioneering nurse in the Civil War who founded the American Red Cross. Tallmadge Auxiliary Police will be crossing visitors from 12-4 pm.


Monday, May 27

8 am: Annual Breakfast at the Community Center by Tallmadge Chamber of Commerce

The Annual Pancake Breakfast hosted by the Tallmadge Chamber of Commerce will be held at the Tallmadge Community Center from 8-11 am.


10 am: Parade & Memorial Ceremony 

Veterans are invited to walk and participate in the Parade. The Parade will step off at 10 am from Our Lady of Victory on North Avenue around Tallmadge Circle and will conclude with a specially choreographed ceremony at the historic Tallmadge Cemetery. The Committee is asking all US veterans to contact Jim Forsythe at 330-607-2978 to be included in the parade and/or program.
