Everyone lives in a watershed. You influence what happens in your watershed, good or bad, by how you treat its natural resources - the soil, water, air, plants, and animals. What happens in your small stream in your backyard also affects the larger watershed downstream. In Summit County we have three major watersheds: The Cuyahoga River, Tuscarawas River, and Rocky River. These can be further broken down into fifteen subwatersheds.
A watershed is an area of land that drains rain and snow to a body of water. The landscape is made up of many interconnected basins. On its way, water travels over the surface and across roofs, lawns, and driveways, picking up any trash, pollutants, or chemicals on the ground.
