POLICE CHIEF
Donald J. Zesiger was sworn in as Chief on March 16, 2010, and serves as the seventh (7th) Chief of Police for the City of Tallmadge Police Department. Chief Zesiger began his law enforcement career in 1986 as a Police Officer with the Kent State University Police Department. In 1989, he became an Officer with the Tallmadge Police Department. He served as a Patrol Officer from 1989 until 1999, when he became a Detective. In 1998, he became a DARE Officer and taught classes at Munroe Elementary School until he was promoted to Sergeant in 2000. In 2004, he was promoted to Lieutenant and was the Operations Commander in charge of the Patrol Division, the Auxiliary Police Unit, and special events. In 2007, he was promoted to Captain where he functioned as the Deputy Chief of Police.
Chief Zesiger graduated from Kent State University in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice. He attended Police Executive Leadership College and graduated in June of 2002. In 2005, he attended the 222nd session of the F.B. I. National Academy. He is a member of the Tallmadge Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #111, the Ohio Chapter of the F.B.I. National Academy Associates, the Summit County Police Chief’s Association, and the Police Executive Leadership College Alumni Association. He is also an instructor at the Kent State University Police Academy and is active in coaching youth sports.
